Japanese Hall and O'Hara's, remembered by Tony Bardach

Tony Bardach of the Pointed Sticks takes on a guided tour of Vancouver's former punk rock hotspots. In this episode (1 of 3), we visit the Japanese Hall, birthplace of the Vancouver punk scene; and the former site of O'Hara's a few blocks away. (Note: Webisodes are not scenes from the Bloodied But Unbowed documentary film; they consist of extended interviews, outtakes, and material shot specifically for thepunkmovie.com)

The Hall Has Another History

Tony is a great tour guide. Time heals all wounds and it's great to relive some of this. The Japanese Hall was the only public building to return to the Japanese Canadians after they were allowed to move back to the coast (1949). A very interesting historic link exists between that community and the labor unions in post-war Vancouver. Geoff Meggs at city hall knows about this history.
