Randy Rampage recalls DOA opening for The Clash in 1979
Things didn't go too smoothly for the Clash at the PNE Gardens in autumn 1979. (Note: Webisodes are not scenes from the Bloodied But Unbowed documentary film; they consist of extended interviews, outtakes, and material shot specifically for thepunkmovie.com)

Great memories
I was there; the night was mind-blowing, thanks largely to DOA's set. Lest we forget, there were three bands that evening. In between DOA and the Clash was a set by a band called the Rockabilly Rebels. Rockabilly hadn't really started to happen yet, and the crowd was not at all up for these guys. The positive energy DOA left on the stage was quickly sapped out of the room. People were booing and bored. That choice of opening act, which I'm sure was the Clash's doing, dug a deep hole that the Clash never really got out of. The band was great, but the mood shift that happened is still fresh in my memory.
The Clash/DOA
Epic night in the mosh pit at the PNE Gardens. Joe Strummer almost stormed off cuz all the punks were spitting & throwing beers. I was there. Good times.
Thanks for the fabulous post
Thanks for the fabulous post ,but, shouldn't he have been on CiTR, Co-op, CJSF or CBC? It seems odd that Rock 101 got him in. They don't give a damn about the original Punk scene in Vancouver. They never play any Vancouver Punk music. Hell, they barely play The Clash. What gives here?
CiTR
We have video clips in the can of Mr Randy Rampage being interviewed by CiTR, too! Stay tuned.
Clash/D.O.A.
This is a good story! I love Randy I interviewed him years ago for my former magazine Soap and Spikes.
A typical DJ who knows fuck all about music and the history of bands "Combat Rock" was 82 fuck head not 79!
Cheers Randy for setting this corporate dickhead straight!
clash and DOA
wow, cool story about the Clash night.
Funny because I was there, and being a DOA fan
that was THE best set the 3 piece DOA ever did.
It ripped heads off, and to be honest I didn;t
notice the Pa get limited.
What I did note is that the Clash didn;t stand a chance
after that DOA set, and the crowd chanted DOA DOA through
most of the Clash set.
The drumkit Bisquits used that night with the skull was
also the best sounding kit he used that I heard, and
I've heard many of the classic DOA shows.
Great to see you Randy Ya HEy ! cevin Key skinny puppy
